john-lloyd-30-questionsThings we found out about actor John Lloyd Cruz: He’s never seen any of the Godfather movies, he likes older women, he wanted to be a pilot, and the end of a friendship makes him cry.

Here, Lloydie answers 30 questions:

1. What do you like about your job?

Wow, ang hirap nun ah. Well, I like the fact that I can express myself through my projects, through my artistry or craft. Yun lang naman ang alam ko eh, wala naman akong ibang alam na trabaho. Di ako nakatapos ng pag-aaral.

2. What were you taking up before?

Di ako umabot ng college. I started in showbiz at 14.

3. What don’t you like about your job?

It’s very consuming — of both time and patience — and often your privacy is invaded but that’s part of the ballgame. Wala kang magagawa. Sana lang, mas masaya kung when it’s too personal already, pwede nang ibigay sa yo.

4. What makes you happy?

Sunday lunch.

5. Rainy day or sunny day?

Sunny day.

6. Christmas or New Year?

Now that I am 26, New Year.

7. Comedy or drama?

Drama.

8. Are you a mountain or a beach person?

I can be both. When I’m traveling I enjoy the city, but in the same way I can enjoy nature.

9. Would you rather have a relationship with an older woman or a younger woman?

It’s something I cannot set standards to. When it happens to you, it just happens.

10. But in the past, have your girlfriends been older or younger?

Lahat yata older (sheepishly).

11. Are you a morning or an evening person?

Now that I am mountain biking, I enjoy early mornings. When I bike out, I’m awake at 6, but I also sleep early. I’ve done 35K up in the mountains.

12. Who’s on your iPod?

Chris Cornell, Jeff Buckley, Incubus until now, Rico Blanco. I’m a big fan of Rico Blanco.

13. What would you have been if you didn’t become an actor?

My last dream was to be an air force pilot. When I was younger, I wanted to be a soldier also.

14. When was the last time you cried?

15. Over what?

Over a friendship.

16. That ended?

I think it’s going that direction.

17. What’s your greatest fear?

Wala.

18. What would you want to be written on your epitaph?

These are things na di ko naiisip, sorry. Siguro I’d let people write it for me.

19. What’s your greatest extravagance?

Ang cars kasi masayadong big, di siya pwede on a regular basis. For a guy, I like bags.

20. As in luggage?

No. Hand-carry bags, totes.

21.Hindi naman man purse?

May mga ganoon din ako.

22. Are you a watch or a shoe person?

Both.

22. If you were stranded on an island, what book, what DVD would you bring?

Maybe DVD, I’m more visual. Dahil di ko pa napapanood, I’d bring the Godfather movies.

23. Are you driving your dream car right now?

Yes, a Range Rover. Sobra akong fan ng Range Rover, bata pa ako dream car ko na yon. Naka-tatlo na akong Range Rover, I’m very lucky nakabili ako ngayon. But I still have another dream car, the two-door Porsche 911 Turbo.

24. How old were you when you bought your first dream car?

I purchased my first Range Rover two years ago. It was silver, then I bought a black, now a full-sized silver ulit.

25. What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled to?

I’m a New York baby. New York is complete — there’s Broadway, shopping, and the best restaurants.

26. What’s your comfort food apart from Lucky Me?

Lapid’s chicharon.

27. Where would you want to live apart from the Philippines?

Di ba when you’re traveling and you come out of the airport, you say, “Uy pwede akong tumira dito. The last time I said that was when I was in London and also Barcelona. Di ba when you watch a movie set in Barcelona, the color is different? It’s like amber. I thought it was just onscreen, but when I got there I saw iba talaga ang kulay, nakakatuwa. Siguro dahil yung mga buildings pare-pareho ang shade.

28. Do you believe in love?

Kaya ko pang maniwala.

29. Is it harder to find it with a job like yours?

Hindi eh. I’d like to believe it has nothing to do with my job; it shouldn’t matter what I do.

30. If a girl can only be one thing, would you go for looks or intelligence?

Looks will get you interested but it’s the brains that will make you stay. Mahirap naman to wake up every morning or go to bed at night, and when you want to connect with her with your emotions, your intellect… you can’t. Kumuha ka na lang ng trophy girlfriend if you want looks lang.

It’s unfortunate that Loydie was not able to pursue further education nevertheless it seems his outlook in life, way of expressing his thoughts, aspirations, etc. indicates good sense of value and intelligence. No wonder in his movies, interpretation, timing and delivery of dialogues, body language, facial expressions and even simple gesture/fidgeting were always artistically really accurate. Could be that he on his own is really studying, rehearsing; or he easily could adapt/connect with the role he portrays, or good directors were really good. He appears to be a natural and artistically articulate. Otherwise, from where is he getting all those perfect/realistic actions/emotions, etc. etc. This is merely an observation; nothing trivial, nor personal; nor being fanatically Loydie which I am not.

Is 52 years old woman too old for John? I’m very impress with him. I’m not a AF pilot but I’m a US soldier retiree:-), maybe, we can relate. Is there a way I can have lunch with him? I’m very new on watching Pilipino movies, but John caught my eyes…I’m thinking about relocating in the Philippines…what you say, lunch?
